Alice In Wonderland Cards (24 designs)
A comprehensive range of folded greeting cards, poster wrap, gift cards and postcards featuring the wonderful original illustrations from the first edition ofAdventures of Alice In Wonderland. These familiar images were the work of Sir John Tenniel, an illustrator and political cartoonist for Punch magazine over a fifty year period. Indeed, some of his Alice drawings are derived from his other cartoons, with Alice's face clearly recognisable in certain female sketches. Tenniel created the drawings in pencil and they were then engraved by Victorian engravers The Brothers Dalziel in preparation for printing the finished book. Tenniel also provided artwork for the second Alice book - Through The Looking Glass - but that was the end of his book illustration work. In response to a further approach from Lewis Carroll to work with him again, Tenniel responded “It is a curious fact that with ‘Looking-Glass’ the faculty of making drawings for book illustrations departed from me, and I have done nothing in that direction since.”
